Though a few staffers and his campaign manager attended, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock skipped out Thursday night on a Denver election ritual

the “lot draw” for ballot position

Dozens of candidates for City Council, auditor, and clerk and recorder watched as, for each race, Denver Elections Division staffers spun a container with slips of paper inside, then read them aloud. Four years ago, the excitement surrounded a competitive field of mayoral candidates and the intrigue of where each’s name would appear on the ballot.

Colorado Latino Forum

The Denver chapter of the Colorado Latino Forum announced Wednesday it “will hold a Latino-focused conversation with candidates for municipal office,” including mayor, auditor, clerk and recorder and prospective city council members.

The event, “Latinos Reshaping Denver’s Political Landscape,” is scheduled for 10 a.m. on April 11 in the First Floor Community Room at the  the Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch Library, located at 1498 N. Irving St. in Denver.

Denver municipal elections are slated for May 5, or Cinco de Mayo, “an important Mexican cultural holiday commemorating a resistance movement for political self-determination,” a press release from the organization read. “Due to the crowded field of candidates this year, Latinos can make the difference for the Cinco de Mayo general election and the June 2 runoff in the event that any one candidate doesn’t get 50 (percent) of the vote.”

The Denver Green Party

Responses to our 2015 Municipal Candidate Questionnaire

We asked every candidate for city council and mayor to respond to issues that are important to Greens in Denver, as well as to our progressive, unaffiliated allies across the city, regardless of their individual party affiliation (municipal offices are considered nonpartisan).  Each candidate was given two weeks to respond to the questionnaire, and in some cases, we followed up to ensure there would be a response from those candidates that made initial queries about our process, timelines, etc.

We are sorry to say that we did not receive any responses from some candidates, including some incumbents. Because we believe you have a right to know, we are also indicating who did not respond to this questionnaire, as well as whether they even opened our email requesting their response.
